Nightclub Interior Design | Cube | DMAC

Beyond the restaurants, DMAC also unveils Cube, the nightclub that alternates from a sports bar experience to a full-fledged performance venue. Passing through ingeniously designed heavy dark wood doors that function as interlocking “steps” and reveal a rhythmic geometric pattern when closed, guests enter the sports bar replete with retractable monitors above a grand rectangular bar of hand-sculpted pine and mesquite wood blocks. Descending a half-flight to a dance floor, a shift in tone and function is palpable through the complex lighting system, acoustic web and additional sensuous textures and materials, including velvety gray drapes, chains as curtains, and even a backlit wall created from inverted baby bottle nipples that is surprisingly abstract and sophisticated. The stage as focal point, which is scaled and equipped for A-list performers, draws guests to the dance floor, which reflects the light effects and images cast from the ceiling. Just beyond stage left, an outdoor terrace offers the vibe of a boutique hotel rooftop, complete with a twelve-foot fireplace. With the attention to technical capabilities and a sleek, sexy design vocabulary, DMAC’s Cube is sure to become a hot spot for guests from within the Casino and beyond........more

As a focal point, the private dining room features a mural-scale image of an underwater ship with a patina surface. The totality is a warm and familiar but more sensuous environment in which to feast and repose........more

Apartment Interior Design | Kwong Shook Lin Residence | Hong Kong | Affect-t

The Renovation of a flat in one of Hong Kong’s exclusive high-rise buildings, the space was opened up to create a contemporary open-plan living environment as per the client’s request. The prior configuration afforded little space in the bedrooms and fragmented space in the living area for gathering.

In order to unify the disparate rooms and integrate the flat a common design language was chosen. A fluid curving space was created which could negotiate and unify the disparate spaces and odd angles of the arrangement. The vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms provide a subtle surface for reflecting the light from the exterior and interior cove lighting while hiding numerous beams in the ceiling. The sculptural ceiling in the living rooms hides numerous LED lights while directing the eye the centre of the dining table in the open-plan room.

Textures and materials interplay as wood is used throughout with the parquet flooring and bespoke oak screen at the entry causing subtle shifts in view as one enters the flat. Marble is used in the two large bathrooms with large sinks carved out of solid block and large soaking tub and shower room in glass tile. A walk-in wardrobe is a point of rest next to the bathroom and a large kitchen can be hidden behind and pivoting door. All features combine to create a feeling of movement of being carried through the space, with the clients affinity for Feng Shui the ideas of direction and energy movement were integrated into the placement of furniture, fittings, and openings to create a contemporary space which envelops the resident.........more

Restaurant Interior Design | L’Idiot Restaurant | Taipei | Taiwan | BAM

The design for the L’Idiot Restaurant Interior consists of two large sculptural objects. These objects, clearly the product of a digital design process, take a new and unique position among today’s architectural installations inspired by the concept for the cuisine. High French Cuisine has become a fashion for food just as smooth digitally driven forms have for architecture. Although entrancing and beautiful, these smooth forms almost remove themselves from the low realms of simple human emotion and basic mental connection. They are elevated to a realm which only few masters can execute on an enjoyable level. Their range of expression is vast, but also esoteric.......more

Apartment Interior Design | Wall Street Studio | New York | Axis Mundi Design

Axis Mundi recently completed two residences for a brother and a sister at Downtown by Philippe Starck.

Other highlights include the 20' long red silk velvet covered banquette, lighting fixtures by Droog, gun lamps by Starck, and furniture by Moooi. Red is the predominant color theme throughout.

The sister's apartment is more subdued. The main design element was the creation of a glass room with sliding
panels which serves as her bedroom. Gold silk drapes line the interior.
Most of the furniture, built-ins and silk carpets were custom designed specifically for our clients. All of the
rooms serve multiple functions, as space was at a premium..........more

Educational Interior Design | Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service | New York University | New York | SubenDougherty Architecture + Design

The new home for the NYU Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service occupies 2 floors, approximating 46,000 square feet, in the Puck Building, a commanding landmark in Soho and one of the city’s true architectural gems. The building’s open floors presented SubenDougherty with a uniquely challenging interior and spectacular open loft space filled with exquisite architectural vestiges of its 1860-1880 origins, yet they offered a minimum of existing usable infrastructure and two masonry bearing walls, that run perpendicular to the length of the building, divide each floor into three distinct zones.

The ultimate architectural challenge was to delicately weave the school’s complex program into this extraordinary space and not compromise the Puck’s signature openness........more

Corporate Office Interior Design | Ogilvy Group | London | Henley Halebrown Rorrison Architects

At 5,300sqm the pair of football pitch-sized floor plates in Canary Wharf required a dynamic solution which was able to address problems with navigation as well as overcoming some of the deepest plans in Europe.

Cafe Interior Design | Late Night Cafe + Bar | London | jak studio

Being a London based practice the mixture of cultures in this city is always fascinating, and Andrae the owner of Petri late night bar and café was keen to bottle it. As an interior brief it had its challenges, the bar was to be a flexible space designed to accommodate sophisticated after work drinkers, diners, and late night clubbers.
Yet the space had been derelict for several years, so the budget and time was tight. With this in mind we designed it as a raw, bold space yet still warm and full of life and colour..........more

Corporate Interior Design | JanSport Corporate Headquarters | San Leandro | California | Rapt Studio

Relocating from their Wisconsin home to the bay area, JanSport wished to retain a meaningful connection to their “rural” roots while supporting an aggressive expansion of their product offerings and a re-energizing of their corporate image. Rapt Studio’s task? To deliver a project that inspired its inhabitants, that reenergized the brand, and that came in within a tight budget and tighter schedule. The Rapt design team utilized a strategy guided by sustainable practices—a minimum of materials were actually brought onto the site and as much of the existing building was reused and exploited in order to accomplish the final result. This strategy included the polishing of existing concrete flooring wherever possible, the installation of ceilings only in areas with acoustic concerns, the utilization of salvaged wood products for the development of high-touch public spaces and the reuse of existing office construction wherever possible........more
