Retail Interior Design | Sun68 | C&P Architects

The goal is not to design a rigid "format" repeatable in different conditions, but to define a set-up method based on two separate levels of intervention.

The first level of the design concerns the existing envelope of the premises, while the second defines the "furnishing elements" for the operation of the shop.

The second level involves the design of the display elements: cash desk, dressing rooms and other accessories necessary for the operation of the shop - through the use of a few basic materials, such as: chipboard, waxed iron, mirror and plexiglass. The mixing process of the different materials allows the construction of an image which, although varying each time, manages to maintain a recognizable and personalized sequentiality and figurative coherence.......more

Retail Interior Design | Wolford Amsterdam Flagship Store | Amsterdam | Studio Modijefsky

The legendary hosiery brand Wolford was always going to be one step ahead when it came to reinventing its store identity. This luxury bodywear company, specialising in tights, bodysuits and underwear, recently approached Studio Modijefsky to produce a brand-new luxurious retail concept for their shops worldwide. Wolford’s latest flagship store, located on P.C. Hooftstraat in Amsterdam, brings together their exquisite craftsmanship and outstanding attention to body and skin to produce a unique and luxurious interior design experience.

As you approach the P.C. Hooftstraat store from street level, a sleek wall of legs immediately draws you inside. This floor-to-ceiling feature is more of an art installation than a typical product display, proudly showcasing Wolford’s world-famous hosiery. Inside the store, the hardness of powder coated fixtures is complemented by the rich, tactile layering of natural stone, sheer fabric and subdued lighting of hand-blown glass. A subtle palette of muted white hues graduates from pure white metal, through creamy travertine and ribbed leather to fleshy, more feminine shades of purple and orange.......more

Cafe/Restaurant interior Design | Karavaan | Amsterdam West | The Netherlands | STUDIO MODIJEFSKY

A new exciting venue has opened its doors in Amsterdam West: Karavaan. This place can be anything you want it to be – all day hangout, bar, your morning coffee place, the spot for Friday night drinks, a neighbourhood cafe for locals, city oasis, cocktail bar, breakfast club, but also your favourite venue for a good meal. Karavaan is all these things in one.

Kwakersplein - the square where the venue is located - has been transformed throughout history. Initially a polder area outside Amsterdam’s old city limits, it became a part of the Bellamy neighbourhood after being dammed in the 19th century. Ever since, people have been migrating towards this spot, just like a Karavaan (Dutch for caravan), but this time to settle for good.

Studio Modijefsky has translated the journey of a caravan into a bar and restaurant concept in the brightest corner of Kwakersplein. The interior is subtly divided into different landscapes: meadow, swamp, forest, mountain and desert, with each zone characterised by its own colour scheme, materials and design specifics, all unified by a trail that crosses the entire space......more

Starbuck Restaurant Interior Design | Starbuck Roastery | Shanghai | 2x4

In 2014, Starbucks opened their first Roastery in Seattle: a new, experiential destination, dedicated to the craft of coffee. Its 2017 follow-up, the Shanghai Roastery, takes that original concept to a new scale.

2x4 collaborated with the Starbucks design and innovation team to make the 30,000ft2 space more legible to visitors. To achieve this, we worked to extend a digital layer throughout the experience, creating a series of interactive touchpoints that highlight different parts of the bean to cup journey.

We took a holistic approach to all interventions, looking to achieve a seamless and authentic pairing of content, technology, and architecture. LED brackets on the overhead pipe system document the source and destination of incoming beans; displays embedded in wood veneer doors animate a tasting room with ambient, diagrammatic and informational content. On the exterior of the building, custom split-flap window displays activate the facade of the building. A WeChat-compatible mobile concept was adapted and developed by the Starbucks China team along with Alibaba to provide a virtual and augmented customer experience.......more

Modern Japanese House Renovation Interior Design | Senri Greenery House | Senri | Japan | Hitotomori Design Studio

This is a renovation of a boxed-frame type reinforced concrete house facing an area of greenery that has been well-tended for fifty years in the town of Senri, Japan.

When it comes to renovation, it is crucial for our design to maximise the inherent potential already found within a building. The building looks out over a large area of greenery and within already contains an abundance of airy spaces. It was our task to utilize these open spaces while at the same time considering each room’s proportions and details to create an even more intimate interplay between the natural greenery outside and the rooms themselves. In addition, a slanted roof supported by the building’s steel frame provided even more open space with which to work. In order that these voluminous spaces would be perceived not so much as ‘rooms’ but as an ‘environment’, our design took in the factors of heat, natural light, ventilation, and greenery to create a space which suggested to this camping and nature loving family a way of life where each and every member, by choosing their own favorite spots from the home environment, would be able create their own personal living space.

The exquisite blue of both the front stained-glass window and exterior walls already combined to give the entranceway one of the house’s defining characteristics. To bring this characteristic into the house and use it to maximum effect, we constructed the foyer and front hall floors, walls, and ceilings with mortar, and limited the materials we used to ones that would be dyed a rich blue when bathed in the light from the stained-glass.

The entrance to each room was already composed of a deep-set, low-ceilinged veneer tunnel. Our design utilized the contrast between this tunnel and the wider space found within the room to further emphasize the intimate relationship of each room’s open blue airiness and the natural greenery outside, and draw out the inherent potential in both entranceway and room.

Within the passage of time we can find divers objects of beauty; through our design, we have endeavored to create a space in which these objects realize their full potential, a space in which they are respected and held in the highest regard, a space in which a home is fully and truly revived.......more

Restaurant Interior Design | Westheimer Restaurant | Houston | Texas | A Parallel Architecture

" Rooted in the ancient aquaponic traditions of Southeast Asian rice paddies, the building is conceived as a framework for vertical farming, food preparation, and nitrogen cycling. A deep-soil roof terrace allows for up to 1,500sf of edible garden, accessed by indoor and outdoor vaulted dining rooms where patrons can observe their chef harvest produce, carry it downstairs to the open kitchen, and prepare it in full view. This literal farm-to-table experience is central to the restaurant’s theater, and essential to its philosophy. True to the aquaponic tradition, on-site composting then allows organic food waste to be repurposed as fertilizer for the gardens, thus completing the cycle. Furthermore, the building’s roof form allows for the collection, capture, and distribution of rain water for irrigation, and its deep shaded overhangs are tuned to maximize sunlight for growing, while also shading glazing from the harsh Texas sun.

With a site largely dictated by stringent parking requirements, the restaurant’s efficient floor plan further reinforces this distributive organization. Akin to a classic sliding puzzle game, the plan is conceived as two stacked 16-square grids, which have been horizontally and vertically manipulated to offer a novel series of adjacencies not typically found in a restaurant. A series of operable window walls, folding gates, and concealed curtains offer further visual and functional flexibility to the space, allowing for seasonal seating adjustments and private parties.

The building’s coarse stone walls afford an understated sanctuary for the restaurant’s more intimate spaces, while its central heart, punctuated by two seasonally transformative redbud trees, is expressed as a jewel-like transparent beacon, inviting passersby and hinting at the uniquely connected indoor and outdoor spaces within......more
